MIDF GROUP HANDS OVER RM1 MILLION TO THE DESTITUTE IN PERLIS
Kangar, 5 February 2010 – Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF Group) today fulfilled its responsibility in handing over a tithe in the amount of RM1 million from its business proceeds for distribution to the destitute in Perlis.
The tithe money will be channelled via Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis (MAIP). Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perlis, who is also the Yang Dipertua Majlis Agama Islam Perlis, received the tithe payment from MIDF Group Managing Director, Encik Mohd. Najib Hj. Abdullah.
“MIDF Group has a responsibility in helping the needy. The Company has also made its tithe payment which is one of the requirements in Islam while playing its part as a concerned and caring corporate citizen,” said Encik Mohd. Najib.
The tithe money will be utilised by MAIP to work with MIDF for the implementation of “Program Rumah Murni MIDF (PRMM)” in Perlis.
The objective of PRMM is to create a comfortable and conducive environment thus enabling the recipients’ children to study in better conditions.
“We believe that a comfortable and safe home will encourage the children to improve in their studies, besides giving them the opportunity to continue their life in a better environment. Our hope is that the children will continue with their schooling and eventually will enable them to upgrade the socio-economic status of their respective families,” he added.
MIDF has implemented various corporate social responsibility initiatives based on education. MIDF’s aspiration in building homes for the poor is to help uplift them from poverty through education and simultaneously assist the Government in eradicating hardcore poverty by 2010.
MIDF has so far built 17 homes for the hardcore poor – eight (8) in Muar and nine (9) in Kota Tinggi in the first and second phases of Program Rumah Murni MIDF. Meanwhile the third phase in Kelantan will witness 10 new homes built for this programme.
“This is the second time MIDF has worked with a Majlis Agama Islam Negeri to build homes equipped with basic furniture for hardcore poor families,” Encik Najib added.
Perlis will receive the largest contribution from MIDF in conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebrations. MIDF and MAIP plan to build approximately 28 to 30 homes for destitute families in Perlis.
