MIDF CELEBRATES 50TH BIRTHDAY WITH SARAWAKIANS

Kuching, 23 April 2010 – Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) shared its 50th anniversary celebrations with two generations of Sarawakians – the first group made up of three 50 year olds who were born on the day the Company was incorporated – 30 March 1960, while the second group was made up of the younger generation – three of Sarawak’s top scorers in the 2009 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

The celebration, held in conjunction with Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia 2010 (MSAM), was witnessed by the family members of both groups.

The 50 year olds - Sim Kian Teck, Romano Mun@Man and Peter Cotter - each received a 32 inch television and a plaque from MIDF’s Group Managing Director, Encik Mohd Najib Hj. Abdullah.

“This is a special year for us, as reaching 50 is no easy feat, but we are proud to have reached this milestone and look forward to many more glorious years to come,” Mohd Najib said after the simple presentation ceremony. “Sharing our 50th anniversary with these two groups mean a lot to us, as MIDF has been present in the state for over 40 years and we would not have gone this far without the Sarawak peoples support.”

Three top scorers in the 2009 SPM examinations were also celebrated – Gladys Tan Yee Kim, Luqman Arif bin Mohd Taha and Magdelina Anna anak Sagat.

Gladys Tan Yee Kim is not only the top scorer in Kuching, but also in Malaysia. The well-spoken student strongly believes that it is very important to lead a balanced lifestyle and one must make time for work and play. Her weekends are spent with her church group where they are active in social work.

Gladys attributes her success to the example set by her 3 older siblings who are also top students, as well as the support from her parents. “As a student, apart from studying, we must also have faith in God. To all students who are sitting for major examinations this year,my advice is to do your best, and let God do the rest.”

Luqman Arif bin Mohd Taha scored 8A+ and 2A in the SPM examinations and aspires to be a cardiologist as he had come across an article about how heart disease is one of the biggest killer of Malaysians.

Schooled at S.M. Sains in Kuching, he used to be in the school’s English Debate team and believes in studying smart. He also believes in maintaining a good relationship with his family, friends and teachers. When asked why he chooses to continue his studies in Malaysia, he confidently answered that his father is also suffering from heart disease, and apart from wanting to help him, Luqman also expressed his desire to be a doctor and to work for the Country.

Magdelina Anna anak Sagat, formerly of S.M.K. St Mary in Kuching, on the other hand scored 7A+ and 3As. Her ambition is to be a gynaecologist as she would like to learn about the diseases affecting women. Magdelina was the editor of her school magazine and enjoys writing poems in her free time. The former Girl’s Brigade president will further her chosen field of study in Ireland.

All three students received a laptop and plaque each from MIDF.
