MIDF Reaches Out To Underprivileged Children In Kota Tinggi

Kota Tinggi, Monday, 4 February 2008 – Fifty underprivileged children from poor families were overjoyed to receive various school kits and cash from caring corporate citizen Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF).

The children, from two schools namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Setia Jaya and Sekolah Kebangsaan Mawai received a bicycle, school uniforms, shoes, school bags, stationeries and other basic school items, worth more than RM 600.00 each.

Johor Education Director Tuan Haji Mokhy Saidon and MIDF Group Managing Director Encik Mohd. Najib Hj. Abdullah were present at a ceremony held at Dewan Jubli Intan here to give away the school kits to the children, aged between eight and eleven.

Speaking at the event, Encik Mohd. Najib said that this is one of the many CSR programmes undertaken by the Company for the year and is similar to all previous MIDF’s CSR efforts. MIDF adopted education as the platform for its CSR initiatives in view of its paramount importance to the country’s development and progress. This is also in support of the Government’s effort to develop better quality human capital.

“As we now live in an era that is knowledge based, it has become very important for our children – our future leaders, to acquire knowledge where ever and whenever possible. Our efforts today for the children serve as an incentive for them to pursue their quest for knowledge,” Encik Mohd. Najib said, adding that MIDF’s efforts to help the children would not stop at merely giving school kits but the company would continue to organise more educational programmes and provide incentives for those who excel in their studies.

A motivational talk by a celebrity figure was also organised as part of the CSR programme during the event. About 150 primary school students, who are preparing for the upcoming Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), attended the motivational talk session. It was an enriching and simultaneously an exciting experience for all of them to hear and share educational and life experiences.

Committed to its CSR programme planned for the year, MIDF has held similar activities throughout year 2007. Last year, MIDF had contributed school kits and other necessities to poor and needy school children from schools around Kuala Kangsar and Kuantan as part of its CSR tour. Earlier in January 2008, MIDF had established a study corner at a City Hall flat in Kuala Lumpur. MIDF had refurbished and furnished an existing flat unit to turn it into a conducive study corner for children as well as for the usage of the surrounding community.

MIDF is certainly looking forward to execute more comprehensive CSR programmes throughout year 2008, incorporating and emphasizing on the importance of education in all of its CSR efforts.
