Angkasawan Negara and MIDF inspire students at Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia
Melaka, 22 April – Angkasawan Negara, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was a hit at the the Melaka International Trade Centre where he presented 50 bicycles and school needs to underprivileged students as part of the Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
The MIDF CSR event, held in conjunction with the Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM), also included a motivation talk to students by Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar who is also MIDF Inspirational Icon.
During the talk, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar spoke of his experiences in space and his determination in wanting to be Malaysia’s first astronaut.
His underlying message was that anyone, immaterial of his or her background can achieve success if they have a dream and work hard towards achieving their ambitions.
The students who visited the MIDF booth also had the opportunity to be motivated by another inspirational speaker, Dr. Fazley Yaakob. Officers from the MIDF Human Resources team also took the opportunity to present a career talk highlighting opportunities at MIDF.
MIDF Group Managing Director, Encik Mohd. Najib Haji Abdullah said: “The MIDF CSR Program focuses on education, in particular human capital development.
“Therefore, we have organized a CSR program featuring Angkasawan Negara, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar as an icon and role model for the younger generation, to motivate them to achieve greater things in life”.
Since its inception in 1960, the MIDF Group has contributed tremendously to the country’s economic and socio-economic growth. Today, the Group has evolved to become a diversified business entity, offering financial and investment services through its three core businesses, namely Investment Banking, Asset Management and Development Finance.
Encik Mohd Najib also said that apart from this initiative, MIDF had, through its other CSR programmes, contributed considerably toward enhancing human capital capabilities amongst many quarters of the society.
“For example, earlier this year we established a study corner for the children of Flat Sri Sabah, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. Before that, we travelled to Kota Tinggi to present 50 children in need with basic school necessities such as bicycles, school bags, stationeries and pocket money to make their school life more interesting and at the same time ease the burden of their parents with the new school year,” he elaborated.
In response to the Government’s call to elevate Malaysia’s human capital resources, MIDF recently sealed a Memorandum of Understanding with Multimedia University (“MMU”) to begin the “MIDF Management Associate Programme” (“MA Programme”).
The MA Programme strives to offer employment opportunities and provide graduates a chance to achieve a successful and fulfilling career with the MIDF Group.
