MIDF and DBKL come together to promote environmental awareness

Kuala Lumpur, 26 July 2008 – Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have joined hands to organize an environmental awareness campaign for the residents of Perumahan Awam Sri Sabah 3A, Cheras.

“Environmental issues are something that affects and concerns everyone, and so it is the responsibility of everyone to do what they can. We at MIDF are pleased to have the opportunity to do our part by creating awareness,” said Encik Azizi Mustafa, Chief Operating Officer of MIDF. This is the second time this year that MIDF and DBKL have worked together on a community event.

During the event, a talk on environmental awareness was given by representatives of the DBKL’s Health Department. The talk focused on teaching residents the importance and value of reducing, reusing and recycling items.

In addition to that, over 900 books were handed over to the Perumahan Awam Sri Sabah 3A Study Corner, which was jointly setup by MIDF and DBKL earlier in the year to provide a conducive learning environment to the children of Sri Sabah. The books were donated by MIDF staff during a collection drive that was organized by the company’s management. The study corner was set up by MIDF to create a conducive place at Perumahan Awam Sri Sabah for the community to use to improve their knowledge and reading habits.

“Community development initiatives are an important part of MIDF’s work culture and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with partners such as DBKL to provide help wherever there is a need,” said Encik Azizi.

Since its inception in 1960, the MIDF Group has contributed tremendously to the country’s economic and socio-economic growth. Today, the Group has evolved to become a diversified business entity, offering financial and investment services through its three core businesses, namely Investment Banking, Asset Management and Development Finance.

MIDF’s corporate social responsibility efforts for 2008 began in January when MIDF established the Sri Sabah study corner. Since that time, MIDF has gone on to provide school necessities to underprivileged students in Kota Tinggi, Johor and Ayer Keroh as well as Durian Tunggal, Melaka. It has also ratified MoU’s with institutions of higher learning, in areas ranging from setting up management associate programmes to the use of student artworks in a public gallery at the MIDF Building along Jalan Raja Chulan.

“At the end of the day, our view towards CSR is that as long as there is a need, particularly when it is in the realm of education, we at MIDF will do what we can to fulfil that need,” added Encik Azizi.
