MIDF HOSTS ART AND CRAFT WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN
Kuala Lumpur, 26th November 2008 – Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (“MIDF”) today organised an art and craft workshop for children in an effort to encourage the younger generation to appreciate art, and to make good use of their leisure time in productive activities during the school holidays.
The art and craft workshop attracted 137 children from the ages of 7 – 16 years old. The children were taught different types of art and craft by students from Faculty of Art and Design of Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM).
During the workshop, the children were exposed to wire sculpture, comic collage and clay art. Children between the ages of 7 to 12 years also participated in a colouring contest during which they learnt the different techniques of colouring.
The one-day workshop was held as part of an arrangement between MIDF and UiTM whereby the Company’s objective is to promote local arts and crafts produced by Malaysian students. The Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties was signed in July this year.
“MIDF has been established for 48 years and ever since its incorporation in 1960, the Group has always taken a keen interest in organizing programmes that are beneficial to our various stakeholders. While our CSR’s focus is to provide assistance to the underprivileged, we also make it a point not to forget about our staff welfare, hence this workshop was initiated to educate the children of our employees about the different forms of art,” Encik Mohd. Najib Hj. Abdullah stated during the art workshop.
“Education after all, comes in various ways and workshops like these are an interesting way of teaching the children not only about the types of art available, but also to appreciate locally-produced art works,” he added.
