Kuala Lumpur, 15th September 2011 - Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (“MIDF”) has embarked on promoting the development of professional golf in the country via its partnership with Professional Golf of Malaysia (“PGM”). Responding to the Prime Minister’s call to develop potential Malaysian professional golfers who will meet international standards and ultimately participate in the Asian and European Tours, MIDF’s support in sponsoring the PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Classic is timely for local golfers.
“MIDF is honoured that it is able to lend support towards PGM’s efforts to promote the development of professional golf in the country among the local golfers,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Mahmood Taib, MIDF Chairman at a ceremony to hand over the sponsorship to Y.A.Bhg. Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, the Chairman of PGM, held at Menara MIDF, here today.
“We believe such efforts will bring long-term benefits to the professional golfing scene in Malaysia. Our local golfers will be able to further enhance their playing capabilities and skills by competing in rewarding tournaments organised by PGM.” The contribution, in the amount of RM200,000 will be utilised to sponsor the PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Classic which is scheduled to be held from 22th to 25th September at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
The PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Classic was also recently added as the latest Malaysian tournament to the Asian Development Tour (“ADT”). The event has a prize fund of RM200,000 (approximately USD66,653) and is the fourth ADT event to be played in Malaysia.
“MIDF hopes that its contribution to PGM will in turn lend a hand in helping to develop the golfing tourism industry in Malaysia. We will continue to support PGM in its objective of producing professional golfers of international standards who will eventually be able to participate in the Asian and European tours.” Tan Sri Mahmood concluded his speech.
In addition to PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Classic, MIDF also supports cricket through its sponsorship of the Malaysian Malay Cricket Association.
