Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat has held various positions in the civil service with the most recent being the Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) from 2006 to 2010.  Tan Sri Rahman joined MITI as an Assistant Director in 1975 and served in various capacities in the ministry for 35 years which included, amongst others, Deputy Trade Commissioner, Malaysian Trade Office, New York; Economic Counsellor, Trade Commissioner and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission; and Director, Export Promotion Bureau, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
